Welcome
Welcome to our website. Wesley and Cornelius Wells’ children considered their parents as a blessed couple. They found it challenging to find them the perfect wedding anniversary gift. They realized that one of the things they both cherished was the value of a college education. That is when they came up with the idea of gifting a scholarship fund in their parents’ name to support a graduating senior at DeQuincy High School , the local public school in DeQuincy, Louisiana where they lived for over 50 years.
On February 19, 2002 the Wesley and Cornelius Wells Scholarship Foundation was incorporated. The Scholarship Foundation awards a Superior Service Scholarship to a DeQuincy High School student who is African American on an annual basis. The scholarship is intended to promote and recognize superior academic achievement, involvement in extra-curricular school activities, exceptional community involvement and leadership.
Their children were the initial contributors but over time the scholarship has grown by the generosity provided by their grandchildren and various other donors. Today, the scholarship's value up to $1,000 per school year, as determined by the Board of Directors and can be utilized by the recipient at an institution of higher learning of their choice.
Like Wesley and Cornelius it is the gift that keeps on giving, having donated to twelve students to date.
The whole history of progress of human liberty shows that all concessions have been born or earnest struggle. If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom yet deprecate agitation.... are men who want crops without plowing the ground. Power concedes nothing without demand. May the legacy of our society continue to progress.
